"My paintings are inspired by my love of fishing. I enjoy wandering around the local fishing shops to gather inspiration. The lures, covered with brightly colored feathers and other ornaments are eye catching and beautiful. I am drawn to the variety of flies and the polarity between their sharp hooks and delicate feathers. For creating my smaller watercolor paintings, I examine the qualities of each fly, and look at photographs to magnify the clash between the pointed barb and the soft down. I appreciate that each fly is a tiny unique piece of art in itself, with its own name and distinct purpose.” — Gail Burr
